In the celebratory year of 2012, with the London Olympics and the Diamond Jubilee, The Mill is working on a new project:
12-20 – This is Us!
12-20 is a project for local young people between the ages of 12 and 20, and will run from the middle of June.
The Mill is working in partnership with local organisation Art Catcher, to recruit the young artists who will create an innovative mural at one of the best known spots in Walthamstow: on the side of the International Supermarket.
Those chosen to produce the mural will work with three professional artists to create a lasting artistic legacy at the heart of the community.
12-20 is a chance to celebrate Walthamstow at a time when it enjoys increased focus as one of the Olympic boroughs. Accordingly, the theme of the mural is ‘celebration’, and the young artists will be invited to paint their heroes or heroines, and add a few words of text.
The mural will be planned and painted on the weekends of 11 June and 16/17 June and 22nd/23rd June.
The Mill will host a celebratory party for the artists after the mural is completed.
