The Mill is a vibrant and welcoming community hub, created by local residents in 2011, based in a former library building at the heart of Walthamstow. We host a wide range of services, events and activities, and operate open access spaces for local people to meet and contribute to community life.

Role: Community Engagement Coordinator
Pay rate: £32,015 (pro rata)
Hours : 15.5 hours per week (May involve working at weekends/evenings)
This post is offered on a 4 years, 5 month contract starting in October 2026.
The Mill is a vibrant and inclusive community hub, founded on Asset Based Community Development principles to build on the strengths of the people and community around us – we are run by the community for the community, through our approach of community co-creation.
Since our establishment in 2011, our charity has worked to improve the wellbeing of visitors and volunteers in our space for new friendships and networks so people feel more connected and we welcome over 5,000 visitors each year. However, we know from our research that there are local people who are not yet using The Mill, even though they may be amongst those who would most benefit.
With funding from The National Lottery – we are very excited to recruit for a new position of Community Engagement Coordinator (part time).
The ideal candidate will need :
- excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with a wide range of people of different backgrounds and cultures.
- a proven track record in outreach work within a similar setting or charity, CIC or community group with experience in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with local community and user groups.
- experience in planning and managing a programme of diverse activities to help us to reach more members of our community.
The role will include building external partnerships, delivering inclusive events, supporting diverse volunteer recruitment and coordinating outreach activity, to ensure that The Mill becomes a more reflective and representative space
Through proactive and inclusive community co-creation, you’ll bring new voices into The Mill, enabling them to shape and lead future programmes.
