Announcing our exciting new projects to build community skills

Party at The Mill

With thanks to funding from St James Street Big Local and match funding from The Co-op Local Community Fund we’re excited to announce two new projects at The Mill:

Grow Your Idea 2 – a community competition to enable six new groups to start at the Mill, whilst supporting existing groups and their leaders. We will be building on the successful Grow Your Idea competitions we ran between 2011 and 2014. We are pleased to announce that Charlotte Major will be coordinating the project.

Community Support Skills – A programme of training for public facing volunteers from The Mill and other small charities working in the St James Street Big Local area (SJBL). We will be sourcing training to increase awareness and understanding of particular issues and equip volunteers with the experience and confidence necessary to help signpost vulnerable people they meet in their day to day voluntary work. Ruth Mitchell, our Volunteer Coordinator, will be liaising with partner charities to create tailored training and information sheets on issues such as mental health, dementia, domestic violence, alcohol and substance abuse, homelessness and debt.

Look out for more information about how you can get involved in both projects soon!

Thank you to everyone who supported us through The Co-op Local Community Fund with their Co-op membership last year!
