Welcome to the Stow – 125 Years of East End tradition

Walthamstow market is the longest daily street market in Europe, based on what was a 19th century rural lane called Marsh Street, it was transformed into the High Street by Victorian expansion.

The market has been feeding, clothing and supplying everything and anything to the East End and beyond for over 125 years, and at its heart are the traders themselves.

Anyone who lives in London will recognise that ‘change’ is a constant and continuous element of the life of the City. What is unique about Walthamstow market, besides its length, and the many bargains to be had! is that tradition and change sit side by side, some traders can still trace their family stalls back for over 100 years.

As the markets’ 125 anniversary came and went, with no notable celebration or recognition, we decided to capture a moment in time of this unique community. We hope you enjoy the journey through one of London’s most unique and vibrant landmarks and communities.
