A Climate of Change – Environmental Art

What is it? Get Creative, Take Notice, Keep Learning

Who is it for? Adults, Children, Young People

As part of our A Climate of Change project in 2020, we created a series of workshops to inspire your creativity, each based on a different environmental theme. The videos were created by Gemma Lawrence.

Watch the videos and have a go!

Workshop One: Natural Ink and Dye

Have a go at using natural inks and dyes, a sustainable alternative to shop-bought dyes and a really fun process to make.

Workshop Two: Paper Clay Vessels

In this workshop we’re recycling basic materials and harnessing three-dimensional sculpture to make Paper Clay Vessels.

Workshop Three: Creating art using physics and chemistry

Two videos to inspire you to create art using physics and chemistry! First Pendulum Painting, creating paintings using the laws of physics, and then try Marbling with Food Colouring and Oil, using the reaction of oil and water to create a marbled print.

Workshop Four: Stop Motion Animation

For our fourth workshop we have a claymation tutorial! Could you create an artwork to tell a story about something that’s happening in the world right now? Our video is based in the coral reef and we want to show people the life that thrives there and needs to be saved!

Workshop Five: Painting with Light

Here are two videos to inspire you to create art using light! First Sun Catchers, making bioplastic to create window paintings. These catch the sunlight beautifully and are made out of an eco-friendly material. The simplicity of bioplastic will shock and amaze you! And then try Sun Prints, we’ve created both bought and home-made sun prints in this video, using shadows and sun light to make patterns and pieces.

Why not share your creations with us on the The Mill’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages, and see what others are doing too?

Milling About is our programme of activities to support our local community and to connect people whilst COVID-19 restrictions are in place. We’re supporting local specialists and creatives from different disciplines to produce activities which  you can do online, from home and out and about in our local area.
