New: Older People’s Pop Ups on Thursdays at The Mill

The winners have been chosen and five new pop up activities for older residents will be taking place at The Mill, starting on 11 September.This means that every Thursday afternoon between 2pm and 4pm there will be something for older residents in The Mill’s Garden Room, with everyone very welcome to attend. You can go to the calendar for more info on each topic and also the contact details, but below is a summary of each:

Mill Memory Catchers starts September 11

Preparing for the Fun Palace (here), residents young and old are invited to free volunteer training on how to work with older residents in particular to capture their memories of fun and special times in Walthamstow, and then participate in this on the Fun Palace weekend of 4-5 October.

Conversation Mill with Waltham Forest Community Radio Group starts October 2

A celebration and archive of the life experience of older people in Waltham Forest. Weekly conversation and recording sessions at which older people will be invited to talk about their lives, opinions and experiences and select favourite poems and pieces of music to accompany the recordings.

Papercrafting and Card Making with Aamna starts November 20

Aamna is an expert at making beautiful greeting and gift cards.  She has a range of tools and materials and invites you to join her for six weeks on Thursday afternoons to make cards of your own.

Chi Kung with Heike starts 8 January

Local Chi Kung teacher Heike will be offering very low cost introductory Chi Kung sessions as part of this programme – come along and try it and find out more about this amazing form of exercise.

Telling Tales Lounge with Sonali starts 19 February

Older residents are invited to come and share their life stories (or as much as they want to share!) in a relaxed and informal atmosphere, and will continue the ancient tradition of oral storytelling.
