Nadia Zuberi, Inside/Outside

Acrylic painting depicting an abstract scene with trompe-d'oeil effects. A room transforms to outdoor scenes. The blue carpet becomes the sea with a boat, a window transforms into a street scene. A pair of llamas stand in front of a wall with a window. A cat in the bottom right corner looks out over it all, and another cat is peering out from a large bunch of cut flowers in a vase on a small table

“I’ve been an art teacher for nearly 10 years but I found I wasn’t actually creating any of my own art. I started attending an art class about a year ago to help remedy this. This term we started exploring using collage to create unusual compositions for paintings and the theme ‘Inside/Out”. When I was putting my piece together I started thinking about what was going on in the world right now, how everything seems a bit upside down, back to front, chaotic and even surreal. I wanted to capture that feeling, yet I didn’t want it to feel bleak and depressing”.
