Get Drawing!

What is it? Get Creative, Take Notice

Who is it for? Adults, young people

During the lockdown in Spring 2020, David, from our Get Drawing Group, shared drawing prompts and tips every Sunday. We’ve collected them all here, so you can take part at your own pace. There are 11 groups of drawing prompts, pick an item from the list, find yourself a bit of quiet space and have go.

Drawing tips:

  • Work in a sketch book if you have one, but you can draw perfectly well on plain printer paper. Most important, find something to use as a drawing board, like a tray or a large book, so you can make your drawing at the best angle (which should be about 45 degrees).
  • Try a bit of colour, too – just adding one colour, with a coloured pencil, can give your drawing a little more impact
  • Remember to start by lightly drawing the main shapes before you begin to work on details. Its like writing a play: you have to start with the plot – a rough outline of everything that is going to happen, before you can write the dialogue – which is the details and shading in your drawing.
  • Why not try drawing in a medium you rarely use, just to challenge yourself?
