The Herbalistic Journal: a Walthamstow collaboration between local herbalist Rasheeqa and artist Yanire, supported by The Mill on Coppermill Lane‘s Grow Your Idea grant! For all to join!

We are offering a programme of combined herb walk + creative plant journal making to participants so you can actively learn about our local medicinal plants and make a record of them with your own hands to take home and keep as a knowledge-piece.

Our project seeks to connect our wild green spaces with local residents to improve health and wellbeing, through a combination of plant medicine learning and creative expression.

We invite locals who want to connect more with your community, to enjoy the pleasure of being in the wild, and to create a useful tool to support your health and deepen your knowledge of what our local natural ecosystems can offer us.

We hope that through drawing, painting and writing about the plants we meet, participants can benefit from emotional restoration, greater relaxation and awareness, stress relief, improved self-esteem and joy!

The programme is free, open to all living in E17 aged 12+ and will take place on Walthamstow Marshes and at The Mill on Coppermill Lane – participants will committ to 2 sessions (a 2 hour guided herb walk on a Wednesday morning + a 2 hour creative journal making session on a Saturday afternoon).

Details:

We will run 3 sets of the programme as follows:
Wednesday 24 June – herb walk + Saturday 30 June – creative session
Wednesday 4 July – herb walk + Saturday 7 July – creative session
Wednesday 25 July herb walk + Saturday 28 July – creative session

We invite you to come take part and produce a living artwork in response to our local flora! Whilst having fun and gaining knowledge about self-care with medicinal plants, folklore & stories and expressing your own connection with the plants through pressing, collage, stencilling and other creative art techniques. You do not need any previous experience!
