HEET are an energy advice charity working locally with Waltham Forest residents who receive benefits, are on low incomes, have disabilities or long term health conditions, and pensioners. We try to visit residents in their homes, aiming to help keep people healthy, warm and in control of their home energy, as well as helping reduce carbon emissions.
We aim to do this by:
  • giving advice about energy saving, keeping gas and electricity bills low, how to control energy use to keep costs down;
  • helping advise on energy debt, speaking to energy suppliers where we can help;
  • advising about discounts on gas, electricity and water bills, where possible
  • advising on switching to cheaper companies where that is available;
  • fitting energy saving measures like draught-proofing, insulation, low energy lightbulbs;
  • helping with heating repairs in some cases (usually home-owners on low incomes)
  • referring home owners and private tenants for grants for large energy efficiency measures (wall insulation, boiler replacements etc) where suitable, and helping them through the grant process;
  • writing reports for tenants on cold homes, damp and other repairs and issues their landlords should or could address;
  • signposting clients to other agencies who can help them
We can help save people money on bills and keep warm and healthy. We do aim to help enable people to take charge of energy matters as much as possible themselves, as this helps build up residents’ resilience and ability to control their own lives.
We are working with Waltham Forest Council on the Community Living Rooms/Warm Winter spaces project to help get help to those who need it most, as well as refer as many residents as we can for larger improvements to their homes that will leave them warmer and hopefully paying less in bills.
