Doing it ourselves: imagining better childcare
An exhibition from 23 July – 19 September 2019
In the late 1970s, a group of parents and toddlers came together to create a unique parent-led co-operative nursery in Walthamstow.
In this new exhibition you will discover the inspiring story of the First Neighbourhood Co-operative Nursery which brings the nursery back to life using oral history, photography, film and archive documents.
- On Tuesday 30 July, we will be offering free art activities with Scribble & Smudge for children and accompanying adults, all ages welcome. Drop in and join the fun between 10 am – 2:30 pm.
- On Saturday 14 September 1:30 – 4:30 pm,There will be discussions on childcare past and present and speakers including Jackie Fulton who was one of the people who started the First Neighbourhood Co-operative Nursery, and Lucie Stephens from the New Economic’s Foundation who are starting a new parent-led nursery in Deptford. There will be family art activities led by the brilliant Lesley from Scribble and Smudge, plus an hour long sound exploration workshop from Soundhoppers.
