One of the things that makes The Mill special is that it’s led and managed by volunteers. We’re inviting local people to join one of our new management groups of volunteers, trustees and staff. We’d love to hear from you if you’ve got skills to share and can spare a few hours a month.
Here are the details of the groups and what they’re looking for. For more information, contact the group leads directly, email info@themill-coppermill.org, or call in at The Mill, look at the information folder at reception, and have a chat to find out more.
People Group
The Mill is all about people and our purpose is to make sure we recruit great people – staff and volunteers – and that they get the support and training they need. We also make sure we operate safely and legally. We welcome help from anyone with experience in Human Resources management or experience of managing staff or volunteers.

Strategic Development Group
In preparation for writing The Mill’s strategy for 2016-2021, we’re reviewing our 2013-15 strategy and talking to all kinds of groups involved in The Mill to gather their ideas. If you can organise consultation events, interview people, write strategies, or evaluate our impact, we’d love to hear from you. We meet once a month in the evenings or weekends.

Strategic Communications Group
We are reviewing our communications planning and practice to develop our communications strategy. We also support our Comms Co-ordinator in leading her volunteer team. If you have press/PR, website, social media, technical or other comms experience, please get in touch. We keep in touch between meetings through individual conversations, email and document sharing.

It would be great to hear from you if you have experience of management, administration, financial procedures, managing volunteers, and especially if you’re an IT specialist. We meet quarterly, keeping in touch by email and one-to-one conversations between meetings.

The Financial Sustainability Group
Our group works to ensure The Mill has the money it needs to survive and thrive into the future, leading on fundraising, and exploring and prioritising ways to grow The Mill’s income. We meet about once a month in an evening scheduled to suit the group. We welcome anyone with knowledge of fundraising, marketing, business development or ways of using the building – our biggest resource.

The Trustee Board
Meeting monthly, the trustees lead on governance and delivery of The Mill’s charitable objectives. . Outside board meetings, trustees take an active role in the life of The Mill. As a rough guide, you need to be able to give about three hours a week to the role. We have two vacancies at present, and are hoping to recruit people with finance, communications or building management experience, and/or good local community links and knowledge.
