More activities announced at the Lea Bridge community project

Things are starting to happen again…

After all the activity in May to July, the library ran its own summer programme and many people involved have taken a short, well-earned break. Meanwhile there’s been an awful lot of hard work behind the scenes to turn this work from a pilot to a long-term community asset.

Here is what you can look forward to this autumn:

  • Monday morning homeschooler group, Mama and Me Homeschool
  • Monday afternoon seniors group – you can email Alison for more information at alison@themill-coppermill.org
  • NEW Wednesday afternoon SistahFriend with Curved Marginz – this is an amazing group for 11-13 year old girls who want to to something friendly, creative and sharpen their communication skills. For more information phone 07984 568541 or 07930 077411, or email sistahfriend@curvedmarginz.com
  • NEW Healthy Fridays – herbal workshops in the morning and health information and activities in the afternoon. For more information email John at hrpp.health@yahoo.co.uk

These are all run by local people working as volunteers, to support people in their own community. To all those concerned, THANK YOU. We hope more activities will find a place in this project in the coming months, and that some organisations are also going to be able to hire the space from the council to provide some much-needed community services during library opening hours.

Also coming up:

A launch event for the community quilt that was put together by community members before the summer holidays.

And to make all this progress sustainable for the future:

Negotiations between the council and the community steering group, with the help and input of The Mill, to make this room available to local groups meeting local priorities in the long term.
