The Mill achieves the impossible!

On Saturday 29th June the Baptist Church in Blackhorse Road held an event to encourage children and families to think about what ‘community’ means. They held a small ceremony to honour several organisations who are community focused, and was rewarded for some aspect of their work.

Mo Gallacio, the Mill’s arts organiser and founder of artworks @ themill, is one our founding volunteers and was invited to attend on The Mill’s behalf. Here’s her message to the Mill’s volunteers and all the people who are part of our community:

I was extremely proud, to collect on behalf of aLL the Mill’s volunteers, this certificate
“For achieving the impossible !”
Achieving the impossible certificate
It’s now two years since we opened the doors to the former St James’ Street Library building and invited people to come in and see their new community space. There was a great deal of interest and curiosity and we were repeatedly asked the same question:-

“What are you going to do here?”

To which we replied, “No, what are YOU going to do?”

And from the beginning, people have come forward to volunteer their time and skills. We’ve had amazing input from architects, designers and many other people who have volunteered their time for free, which has helped to transform the building into the welcoming place it is today.

Two years on The Mill is a well-established, well-loved part of the local community. It is, with the exceptions of Natasha, Carolyn and Alison, run by volunteers, including its six trustees. All of us, as volunteers, are the lifeblood of the Mill. Some people give several hours a week, some an occasional hour a month.Every one of you is vitally important, because without you The Mill would grind to a halt.

Together, we made The Mill happen!

With your continued support and our ever growing band of volunteers it will hopefully keep on happening.

Huge thanks and congratulations to everyone!

Mo
