Our Voices is a retrospective exhibition by Share UK to mark their 10 years of celebrating every day heroes in East London. Among the stories are Holocaust survivors, free school meal pioneers and lesbian suffragettes. The exhibition uses multi-media technology to bring the history to life, including audio, video and podcasts. Using QR codes, visitors can use their phones to hear people tell their story in their own words.
The exhibition took extensive research to put together. Many of the stories come from working class communities, and archives often don’t keep diaries and photos of these people. So Share UK relies on oral history interviews and newspaper cuttings to piece together tales of these important early pioneers.
