Community Event Organisers’ Skillshare/Networking Event

Do you currently or plan to put on events and experiences for your local community? Do you have ideas about being active in your community and would love to meet like-minded people? If so, then come and join other community event organisers to share ideas and experiences, and open up common and uncommon themes that come up when working in this context!

Tea, coffee, and cold lunch buffet will be provided, and there will be resources, Big Lunch Packs, and Kew Garden Seed Packs to give away — also feel free to bring flyers for things you’re involved with!

We will start the event by getting to know who’s who, and use a format similar to open space tech to get everyone’s ideas out and onto paper, which we can then discuss in small focus groups. We will have two volunteers from Grenfell who can share their experience of developing networking initiatives around the area in the aftermath of the last year’s disaster. We will also share ideas about Big Lunches and creating Local Big Walks for anyone interested in doing so in their own area.

After the event there we will celebrate the launch of the Big Walk across the country by taking our own Waltham Forest Big Walk! David Boote will take us on a local journey exploring and connecting people to community initiatives, nature reserves, and local heritage. The walk starts at 2.30pm at the venue and will end at 5.30-6pm near Walthamstow Central tube station, with plenty of opportunities to jump off the walking wagon and onto public transport if you want to cut the walk short or if you want to join us later on.

All in all this will prove to be a fun, engaging, and interesting event with a good dose of inspiring exchanges. Laonikos will be there from Eden Project Communities, who started earlier this spring as Community Network Developer for London and the South.
