Inclusive Weekly Gathering for Adults and Families
The Autism Support Group & Community Games Club, hosted by Surna’s Empowerment and Social Hub CIC, is a welcoming weekly event designed to provide a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for adults aged 18 and over with autism, as well as their carers, siblings, and families.

Background
Surna Khan combines lived experience with a strong academic foundation in autism studies. She holds a BA (Honours) in Health and Social Care, a Postgraduate Degree in Autism and Asperger’s Syndrome, and has successfully completed her Master’s in Autism Spectrum at Sheffield Hallam University, with formal graduation scheduled for November 2026. In her roles as Autism & Neurodiversity Support Lead and Autism Specialist Consultant, she shapes the organisation’s strategic direction in autism support and neurodiversity‑inclusive practice. Her work is grounded by specialist knowledge, research‑informed understanding, and a practice framework strengthened through continuous professional development, ensuring her approach remains aligned with research and developments in autism studies. Surna intends to progress to doctoral study, further strengthening her long‑term commitment to advancing autism research, inclusive practice, and community‑based models of support for individuals with autism and their families.
Experience
Surna has personal experience alongside extensive professional experience delivering specialist support to individuals with autism, their families, and caregivers. She facilitates community groups and wellbeing sessions, providing practical guidance, clear communication strategies, and accessible approaches tailored to each person’s needs. She ensures sessions are as enjoyable and engaging as possible, using fun, accessible activities that help adults feel relaxed, confident, and connected. She mentors volunteers and provides one‑to‑one weekly support for two adults at two different charity shops, helping them build confidence, develop skills, and engage meaningfully in their roles. Her work strengthens the ability of carers, siblings, guardians, and volunteers to understand and advocate for their loved ones, reducing isolation and promoting confidence within the community.
