What’s on Monday 5 September to Sunday 11 September 2016

The BIG event this week is the first day of the exhibition of postcard-size artworks in The Greatest Little Artshow & Raffle in E17 – which starts on Friday 9 September. Full details are below, as are details of all other activities from Monday to Sunday this week.

But, remember you don’t have to join in an activity to call in at The Mill – everyone is welcome whenever we are open. You can borrow a book from the honesty library , bring your little ones to enjoy all the toys in the playroom, make a cuppa and have a chat – and we also have leaflets, flyers and posters on display so  you can find out what else is going on in Walthamstow.

Monday 5 September

Yoga at the Mill6pm-7pm – Gentle Yoga – Learn some gentle healing poses and relaxation techniques, which you can also do safely at home. Classes are small (up to 8 students), so you will get plenty of individual attention. £10 drop in or £9 with a loyalty card. 7pm-8.30pm – Ashtanga Yoga – This class is also led by Josetta who specialises in teaching beginners this dynamic style of yoga, but all levels are catered for.Regular students buy ten week loyalty cards for a discounted £10 per class. Drop-ins are also welcome, space permitting for £11. This class is for anyone with little or no experience of either yoga or Ashtanga yoga, as well as for those who wish to develop their practice. Make your mark - drawing course in Walthamstow for all abilities7pm-9pm – Make Your Mark – the first class of a 4-week  drawing course for all abilities. A relaxed approach will allow you to develop at your own pace and  explore your own ‘ways of seeing.’ Paper, pencils charcoal and pens are supplied, however, having an A3 sketchbook is advisable. The classes will alternate between The Chequers pub (Walthamstow High Street) and The Mill. The first class will be at The Chequers. Tuesday 6 September

coffee-cropped10am-12pm – Real Coffee Freshly Brewed @ The Mill. On the first Tuesday of every month you can enjoy a cup of real coffee, freshly brewed + free, home-made, almond biscotti – and all for just £1.00 … ! Just drop-in between 10am-12pm; everyone welcome.

Socialble Sewing logo10am–1pm – Sociable Sewing Group – the group is run on alternate Tuesdays and this is the first of a new series of sessions. Whether you are a beginner, intermediate or an experienced sewer, all are welcome. You can bring your own sewing, patchwork, darning or mending. An experienced sewer, Hilary, will be on hand for help and advice, and we have sewing machines available if you need them. £1 donation + small costs for materials. Yoga for cyclists7.30pm-8.30pm – Yoga for Cyclists – a 5-week yoga course geared toward the cyclist, but suitable for all. The five 1 hour classes are recommended as a course, though drop ins are also welcome (space dependent). £10 per class or £45 in advance for all 5 weeks. There are limited spaces and class size is small, so booking is advisable. Blocks and straps will be provided. Mats available at request, but please bring your own if possible. Wednesday 7 September

laughterclubimage12pm-2pm – Laughter Club – Meets weekly and is for people to socialise and make new friends and enjoy pleasant company. Set up originally for people who are on employment support allowance on the work programme with SEETEC, but others are welcome. For more information email.

Mindfulness2pm-2.30pm – Mindfulness Training – Robert Beard has been training in mindfulness practice for over 30 years. He is offering a drop-in taster session on Wednesdays which consists of a lead practice called ‘bringing the senses home’. It lasts for half an hour with a prompt start time and a brief introduction to the nature of mindfulness. Attendance by donation (suggested minimum £5). For more information email.

People on the beach at sunset6.30pm – 7.30pm – Move the Body – Still the Mind – This is a moving meditation class, in which you will perform gentle, natural movements based on Chi Kung and Tai Chi practices and principles. Age and mobility difficulties are no obstacle as the exercises are gentle and can be accommodated to any ability. Cost £9. Please bring a bottle of water and wear flat footwear. mushrooms2pm-4pm – Grow Your Own Mushrooms – A free workshop to learn the basics of mushroom cultivation using various techniques using grain, straw and wood for growing gourmet and medicinal mushrooms such as oyster, reishi and shiitake mushrooms.
