What’s on – Monday 13 to Sunday 19 June 2016

A new addition to our regular calendar of activities starts on Thursday 16 June – a drop-in, coffee morning for parents of pre-crawling babies who would like to meet others. Full details of this and all other activities which are open to everyone this week are given below. Information given includes details of whether you need to book or if you can just drop-in, if the activity is free or if there is a charge, and contact details so you can find out more.

And, don’t forget, whenever we are open – Tuesday to Friday, 9.30am-6pm, and Saturday and Sunday, 10am-2pm, you can just drop-in to:

  • Use the honesty library (a great selection of books donated by local residents which you can take away to read, and then return or not … we don’t check!)
  • View the latest art exhibition on the walls of our ‘living room’
  • Make a cuppa (tea and coffee supplies are available for a small donation of 50p)
  • Bring your little ones to enjoy all the toys in the Childrens’ Playroom, or
  • Just come in for a chat – there’s always someone on the reception desk to welcome you.

Whitefield Schools exhibition“Happiness” – is our current art exhibition. We’re delighted to be working again with Whitefields Schools (part of Whitefield Academy Trust) to showcase work by the school’s students. Expect a variety of colourful and characterful images, pictures of favourite things and enjoyable techniques. You can call in whenever we are open to view this exuberant exhibition on the walls of our living-room .  Everyone welcome – just drop-in.

Monday 13 June

9.30am-3pm – Pop-Up MondayThe Mill is reserved during these hours for local business people looking for work and networking space. For more information click here.

Yoga6pm-7pm – Gentle Yoga – Learn some gentle healing poses and relaxation techniques, which you can also do safely at home. Classes are small (up to 8 students), so you will get plenty of individual attention. £10 drop in or £9 with a loyalty card. For more information and to book your place send an email to:josettayoga@hotmail.co.uk

7pm-8.30pm – Ashtanga Yoga – This class is also led by Josetta who specialises in teaching beginners this dynamic style of yoga, but all levels are catered for.Regular students buy ten week loyalty cards for a discounted £10 per class. Drop-ins are also welcome, space permitting for £11. This class is for anyone with little or no experience of either yoga or Ashtanga yoga, as well as for those who wish to develop their practice. MakeYourMark-ImageMakeYourMark7pm-9pm – Make your Mark.  Escape from the daily rigours of life and disconnect from smartphones, tablets and computers and join Make Your Mark, a 4-week drawing course for all abilities, led by artist Jason Hawkridge. Participants will explore drawing techniques through studying dynamic installations and life models, allowing various drawing styles to emerge. The will take place in the back room of The Chequers and at The Mill on alternate weeks, on 13 June we’ll be at The Mill. A relaxed approach will allow individuals to develop at their own pace and will encourage participants to explore their own ‘ways of seeing.’ Paper, pencils charcoal and pens are supplied, however having an A3 sketchbook is advisable. Tuesday 14 June

SociableSewing10am-1pm-  Sociable Sewing Group – Bring your sewing projects to The Mill and sew along in company with others. All sewing projects welcome: patchwork, mending, darning. Come and learn a new sewing skill, have fun with a new fabric project or come to sew surrounded by others doing the same and have some fun. An excellent teacher will be on hand to help and give advice. £1 donation + small costs for materials. Please email  if you are interested in attending.

Wednesday 15 June

laughterclubimage12pm-2pm – Laughter Club – Meets weekly and is for people to socialise and make new friends and enjoy pleasant company. Mindfulness2pm-2.30pm – Mindfulness Training – Robert Beard has been training in mindfulness practice for over 30 years. He is offering a drop-in taster session on Wednesdays which consists of a lead practice called ‘bringing the senses home’. It lasts for half an hour with a prompt start time and a brief introduction to the nature of mindfulness. Attendance by donation (suggested minimum £5).

knitting6.30pm-8pm – Knitting Drop-In – Suitable for experienced knitters or the complete beginner. Support and teaching where required. Everyone welcome for £1 donation. For more information email – or just come along.

Thursday 16 June

MotherBaby9.30am-12.00pm – New Parents’ Social Drop In –  is an informal coffee morning for parents of pre-crawling babies to get to know others who are also welcoming a new little person into their family. £1 donation to The Mill plus honesty box for tea/coffee.  Spaces may be limited by available space so contact the organiser – Jo Bardsley – to find out more.

scrabble ideas connections12pm-1.30pm – Words, Conversation and Scrabble group – Come along to gain confidence in spoken English, or simply if you enjoy a good game of Scrabble to help improve your vocabulary. KidsArt3.30pm-5pm – Kids Art Club – Themed art activities for children aged 3 years and upwards. We often work with younger children from 3.30pm and the older ones from 4pm but we are very flexible. Spanish10am-11am – Spanish for You – Español para usted. Classes run by a native Spanish speaker for beginners and improvers (of any age) The cost is £6 per session (6 week terrm payable in advance).
