Lots of exciting things happening this week with Apple Day being the grand finale! On Saturday 26 September, 1pm-4pm, come along to take a turn on the apple press to make really fresh juice from locally-scrumped apples and join in lots of other apple-related activities – apple bobbing, balancing a 20p coin on a floating apple (a new activity this year), the longest apple peel competition – and a chance to decorate your own hand-made straw head garland. There’ll be live music, scrumptious apple bakes, and face-painting too. Small donations requested for juice, bakes and some activities. All activities are child-friendly but for the littler ones please make sure they are accompanied by a responsible adult. Don’t miss this firm favourite in our annual calendar … !
Other events this week
There’ll be lots of conversations going on. On Tues 22 Sept (7pm-9pm) and Sun 27 Sept (10am – 12 midday) there’s English for Beginners/Improvers working towards IELTS; for details of the fee and further information email: easyenglishe17@gmail.com. On Thurs 24 Sept (12 midday – 1.30pm) you can join the informal English Conversation Group to gain confidence in spoken English; more information from Adele on tinman.adele@yahoo.com. The award-winning Tiny Talk baby signing class will be on Weds 23 Sept (10.30am – 12 midday); once your baby is signing, you will no longer have to guess what they want as they will be able to communicate what they like and what has grabbed their attention (eg. signing “swing” when entering the park or “book” when they would like a story); booking essential – email rosev@tinytalk.co.uk.
Some of the regular drop-in sessions include Knitting on Weds 23 Sept (6.30pm – 8pm), the Kid’s Art Club on Thurs 24 Sept (3.30pm – 5pm) and the Community Breakfast on Sun 27 Sept (11:30am to 1pm) – where you bring along your favourite breakfast food, and for a small donation help yourself to tea & coffee – and you might even find some freshly-pressed apple juice this week!
A special event will be the Macmillan Coffee Morning – Fri 25 Sept (10.15am – 11.15am); come and enjoy an hour of cakes, tea/coffee, NYR Organic raffle prizes and Indian Head Massages (limited slots) all to raise money for a fantastic cause. Please let Natalie know you will be attending by booking here (free admission) http://www.eventbrite.com/e/macmillan-coffee-morning-tickets-18492407288
Consultation event on the morning of Saturday 26 September there will be information and displays about the proposed re-development of 57 Blackhorse Road (the Gulf petrol station next to the Baptist Church). Come along and have your say – then stay on for Apple Day festivities!
