The Mill will be leading on a marquee at the Walthamstow Garden Party on 18 and 19 July.  We want to use this great opportunity to get lots of local groups and organisations involved in running a collaborative E17 Community Marquee, where visitors can learn about and get more involved with the amazing community across Walthamstow.

Please put the dates in your diary now and plan to visit what will be a wonderful weekend with lots happening.  You can sign up on the Walthamstow Garden Party website to receive the festival programme and updates by email.  Calls for participants and volunteers will be going out in mid June.

Are you a Walthamstow group or organisation interested in getting involved?

The Walthamstow Garden Party E17 Community Marquee be themed around Welcome, Community and Volunteering.  It will be an inclusive space for all community organisations and groups in Walthamstow to share and have conversations with visitors to the Garden Party.

Groups will share space that is themed by neighbourhood; provisionally we are planning:

  • Higham Hill and Blackhorse Lane
  • Lloyd Park and Priory Court
  • Chapel End
  • Wood Street
  • Blackhorse Road and Marshes
  • Queens Road and Markhouse
  • Central Walthamstow
  • Village and Hoe Street

Groups will be invited to share their information on their neighbourhood stall and volunteer for timeslots on a published rota for the neighbourhood where they are based.  While present, they will be able to meet and greet visitors and talk with others active in their community.  We want to inspire visitors to find new ways to contribute to their community and will have a display of volunteering opportunities.  Everyone will be asked to contribute to a growing interactive display behind each neighbourhood stall about their favourite parts of their community that they recommend to others.

Community organisations across Walthamstow can play a role in this that is right for them and their capacity.  This includes organisations who would consider taking a lead in theming a neighbourhood stall and coordinating with other local organisations – please get in touch if this might be you.  We welcome local councillors getting actively involved in the opportunity this presents to showcase the local community and its groups.
