‘At The Mill we believe that imagination and creativity can help people to see and experience things differently, express themselves and inspire other. Our exhibitions, workshops, and activities make a huge contribution to The Mill’s aims to reduce isolation and build social capital locally. Never too young!’
We want to create and develop a regular children’s after-school art club, at The Mill, which will attract children aged 3-10 and their parents from across the diverse community. A short pilot run by community volunteers has proved extremely popular, beyond expectations, and has informed these plans. Children will learn art skills, have opportunities to work with different materials, and gain confidence and enjoyment. Aviva funding will make this project happen. The living room will be reserved for 36 term-time weeks, once a week after school, and volunteers will run 6 half-terms along different themes, creating a fun, messy, inspiring and talent-nurturing art club for families. Materials and any volunteer expenses will be funded by the grant. The sessions will last for one and a half hours – younger children with a shorter attention span, can also make use of our excellent children’s play room, and the older children can stay the full time.
