Step Up @ The Mill will enable four new creative activity groups to be established at The Mill community hub in Walthamstow targeting and benefiting more isolated members of the community, and significantly growing The Mill’s capacity to engage and benefit local people. After applying to become part of the project, each successful group will be able to have a 6 week trial with free room hire at The Mill, expenses and materials costs covered and support from The Mill’s experienced staff and volunteers in community engagement, publicity, sustainability and project management. The group leaders will be able to try out new ideas without the financial risk of starting up a new group without support and the participants will be able to learn new creative skills or develop existing skills. The successful groups will run during weekday daytimes to target members of the local community who are not in work at these times, including older people, the long term unemployed, and parents with young children. At the end of the project all the groups will contribute to a celebration event/exhibition of the work that has been created.
