The Bridge – a new community organisation: The Mill’s work at Lea Bridge has come to an end. Our pilot community project for the council was successful and has given birth to a new community project – The Bridge. The Bridge is a constituted voluntary organisation for the Lea Bridge area. It will be making things happen in the community room at Lea Bridge Library, 382 Lea Bridge Road E10. The council have signed a contract with The Bridge to let them do this into the future, and The Mill has worked with all of them to make this happen, under Mill Consultancy.
This Saturday, 22 March, there will be a launch and community celebration event at Lea Bridge Library. Everyone is welcome – there will be information about The Bridge, the activities that are already running in the room, new opportunities and volunteering. There will be refreshments and hopefully some entertainment too. The launch event will be from 1pm to 3pm on Saturday. The Bridge has its own email list and is setting up its own website. If you would like to join their email list now, email alison@themill-coppermill.org. Carmen Kearney, Lea Bridge resident and newly chair of The Bridge writes: “At The Bridge, our vision is to provide a welcoming space where local people are encouraged to share their talents and develop their skills by proposing activities for which they believe there is local demand and running the activity groups. We are keen for people to feel empowered to embrace new initiatives. So far, residents have used the room for a range of activities ranging from home schooling, arts and crafts, keep fit and healthy living advice to languages and music. It is a space for everyone, but we are particularly keen for the more marginalised sections of the community to become involved.”
The Mill hopes to do more community consultancy projects in future, to raise funds for The Mill and help others to make things happen in their communities.
