We have new things happening here at The Mill . There is so many exciting activities taking place this week with the regulars – that is the  Spanish , Italian and English Conversational Group, the Book club, the Chess Club and the list does really go on. Baby Music with Jo and her Cello is an enjoyable interactive music session for babies 0-12 months and their parents/carers. Sessions contain action songs and nursery rhymes adapted especially for babies, engaging activities to support listening skills, exploring and playing instruments with live cello, fun music and movement, interesting vocal sounds and stimulating multi sensory activities. Our Bunko aims to help children speak Japanese by using the stories, books and traditional arts of Japan. Aimed at kids who already have some knowledge of the Japanese language, or have a parent who speaks Japanese at home, the Bunko is part of an international network of volunteer run books clubs aimed at keeping children in touch with their roots and in showcasing Japanese culture. http://kodomobunko.org.uk

Freedom for Birth is a 50-60 minute documentary about the abuse of human rights in childbirth around the world. The documentary has been made by a couple who were inspired to make documentaries about childbirth following the difficult birth of their daughter 4 years ago. It features many of the world’s leading voices on childbirth including Ina May Gaskin, Michel Odent, Sheila Kitzinger and many others working to highlight how women are being denied the right to birth as they wish. Freedom for Birth is not just a documentary. It is a campaign to raise awareness of what is happening in maternity services across the world. It is a call to action with the hope that from watching the documentary and talking about what you have seen and heard, you can be part of the change that needs to happen. 10:00 to 11:00 Wriggly Rhythms
Wriggly Rhythms is a group for babies and toddlers who want to sing with their parents and carers. During a 45 minute session, they will get the opportunity to sing songs, shake shakers, meet puppets, dance, listen and, of course, sing. A variety of songs from traditional nursery rhymes and counting songs to less familiar songs around themes that change every half term. Lots of repetition provides familiarity and a good foundation for learning while, for parents, it’s the opportunity to learn new songs to sing at home of dust off your memories to keep the traditional rhymes alive. The Mill Community space knitting group meets every Friday from 10am to 12 noon. For experienced knitters or the complete novice. Support and teaching where required. Everyone welcome.

 13:30 – 15:30 Healthy Living Workshop
Are you a disabled person? Are you a Carer? Or are you or someone in your family elderly and keen to stay fit and independent. WFDRC is a local charity which has been helping people like you for over 20 years. At the Mill we are holding 10 taster sessions of activities which include armchair exercises, memory games, healthy living, reminiscing, and local and family history. These session will start on Friday 14 September and continue every Friday until 16 November 2012. 14:00 – 16:00  Spanish for You
Spanish is a fun and easy language to learn. This course is aimed at beginners and improvers (of any age) and you will learn how to ask for information, get around, order food and drink and start basic conversations. The class will run on Saturdays 2-4pm. I am a native Spanish speaker, with a teaching qualification from the UK, so why not enrol! The cost is £10 per session (term payable in advance).
