SOFT exhibition runs until 14 July

SOFT craft exhibition is on display @The Mill until 14 July

Some really amazing pieces have been submitted for this exhibition – Walthamstow has some exceedingly talented and creative craft artists!

There is a chance to meet the artists on Thursday 21 June between 6 – 9pm

The exhibition was put on after The Mill’s call for art objects which are soft to the touch – batik, crochet, cross stitch, felt, fibres, knit, lace, macreme, quilting, tatting, tramputo….to display the softer talents in Walthamstow.

Celebrating the comforts of handmade creations, SOFT showcases how softness can be strength.

About the exhibition

The standard of submissions was absolutely outstanding, wide ranging, and beautifully revealing of hidden talents in our area. Over a dozen artists are represented in this exhibition, and several pieces are interesting collaborative undertakings.

From sculpture to wallhangings, a pom-pom rug to printed and hand colored fabrics, SOFT highlights the fundamentally mixed media nature of textile art. The exhibition also challenges preconceptions of sewing as more of a craft than an art.

The exhibition will run until 14 July 2012. During the course of the exhibition, Significant Seams and the Mill will host a range of workshops, including:

  • William Morris Fabric printing – Use wood printing blocks to upcycle your old bags and clothing, with Rebecca Jacobs of the William Morris Gallery.
