If you have been watching the newest adaptation of Great Expectations on the BBC, you will know that a celebration of Charles Dickens’ 200th birthday is taking place.
There is no doubt that Dickens is responsible for some of the most well known works in English Literature and indeed some of the most well known phrases in the English language. In fact, we know Dickens so well that we proabably take him for granted.
After all, aside from english lessons at school and famous film adaptations…how many Dickens titles do people actually read from cover to cover? This is exactly why the Mill Book Club’s most recent choice of Hard Times is even more perfect to begin 2012 with!
