After years of campaigning, months of renovation and a late night dash to get the building ready, The Mill finally opened its doors on Saturday the 6th of August.
We’re not opening properly until September but during August we’ll be working to get more rooms ready and finish the three rooms that are open already.
School children from Coppermill Primary school came along to launch an exhibition of photographs they’ve taken of the area they live.
Azrael, Bobby, Jay, Ramon, Vina, Yassine and their families showed off their pictures, taken on a single Saturday morning, under the guidance of local graphic artist Fabien Ho.
Have a look at some photos from the day. If you have any pictures yourself please email them to comms@themill-coppermill.org
Mo, our Arts Organiser at The Mill says “I’m looking forward to showcasing the widest possible variety of local work. I want to make sure that different groups and ages are represented from across our diverse and exciting community”.
Exhibitions will run throughout August, including:
Renewed!
The first of a two-part exhibition by local photographer Dave Hall, which captures the earliest days restoring and redesigning The Mill, and the beginning of the new life of the building. It records efforts to bring the space back into the hands of the local community, and especially the ongoing commitment of the St James Street Library Campaign.
We Are Community Too
A vibrant collection of screen prints and mixed media images, produced by adults and children on behalf of Waltham Forest Mencap and Inky Cuttlefish.
Our Perspective
This series of photographs was taken on a single Saturday morning by eight children from Coppermill Primary School, under the guidance of local graphic artist Fabien Ho. The children were invited to capture images that best showed Walthamstow as they knew it, and the exhibition features work by Azrael, Bobby, Jay, Rafi, Ramon, Soli, Vina, and Yassine.
