Come and see Walthamstow’s new community space on Saturday 14 May.
Doors will be open from 11am to 2pm.
It’s not yet ready for use, as it needs repairs and redecoration. But come and see if it suits your needs for a place to meet, hold events or use office space.
Four years after St James Street Library in Coppermill Lane was closed down, local campaigners won funding through a Lottery-backed Neighbourhood Challenge competition and persuaded the council to let us rent the empty building – which we’ve renamed The Mill. Now we’re getting it ready to reopen in the summer.
A first open day last month attracted more than 100 people, despite being organised at a few days’ notice. Many people put their names down to help get the building back into use and start running activities. We’ve advertised for staff and are currently sifting through applications, and we’ve begun a community research project in partnership with the council.
Offers of help are very welcome – especially if you have specialist building or maintenance skills, or could offer materials.
