Art Works at The Mill

Art Works coordinates creative and cultural activities at The Mill, and engages local people in making, showing and experiencing all kinds of art.

Our aim is to celebrate the creative work done by all sections of the community: all ages and abilities.

We aim to present 6-8 exhibitions with accompanying events every year.

Summer art activities at the Mill E17We believe that imagination and creativity can help people to see and experience things differently, to express themselves and inspire others. The exhibitions, workshops, events and activities that make up Art Works have made a huge contribution to The Mill’s aims to reduce isolation and build social capital locally.

We aim especially to welcome those who might feel marginalised or intimidated by traditional art venues. We have empowered people to get involved and learn new skills, leading to an increase of social confidence and wellbeing.

The opportunity to exhibit and view art has brought many hundreds of people into the building, and inspired them to become involved – either as exhibitors, volunteers or users of the community spaces in The Mill.

Our exhibitions celebrate the creativity of the community or present projects that concern the community. If you have an exhibition idea that could help us achieve our goals, or are interested in joining our team, please be in touch at artworks@themille17.org.
