Gillian Lawrence, Appalachian Blue

“I had cardboard from Ebay parcels. I had textiles from Silky Sue. It is Lockdown

I read the book about Troublesome Creek. I sang the cotton mill songs. I joined USA Zooms at midnight.

The Fugates of Kentucky; the shunned poverty-stricken families of the hollows isolated in the Appalachian mountains were intermarried people carrying a gene which blue-d their blood and tinted their skin.

My neighbours in multi’cultural east London will take a peek at my window as they exercise or shop during social distancing”.
