Significant Seams is pleased to be launching its latest sewing programme at The Mill later this month with a quirky exhibition of children’s clothes.
The Honesty Library is now adorned with what Catherine West of Significant Seams calls “The Puzzle Quilt.” Made with her small daughter out of outgrown clothes, the quilt pieces together their shared memories in a jigsaw of comfort.
Other features include a school uniform fashioned from a knit jumper whose stretched out cuffs landed it in a charity pile, an embellished t-shirt from an ebay bulk buy, and a “mug hug” to keep tea warm from the scraps of the other projects.
The exhibition launches a four week sewing programme, starting Thursday 26 January, focused on working with what you’ve got to make something more useful and beautiful.
Each two hour class will teach easy sewing techniques and share fun ideas. The class will use sewing machines as well as some hand sewing, an iron to make bespoke transfers, and participants creative ideas.
Each session, from 11am to 1pm, is £6 and participants will need to bring an item for “up-cycling.” Five places remain and are strictly limited so don’t miss out: book now by emailing catherine@significantseams.org.uk.
